In this post I will show you some of the best new features in Office 2016 for Windows. At first look, Office 2016 look and feel a lot like Office 2013. No big game changer here. One of the thing many users disliked about Office 2013, was the fact that the UI was very bright and white. Microsoft has listen to the critics and made options for new Dark Gray or Colorful themes, if you prefer that over the white theme that still is default.
Outlook suggest Recent files for attachment
A new feature on Outlook 2016, is when you want to attach a file in Outlook, you will automatically be presented for your most recently used file. That is a big timesaver for many users. Not need to browse all the way don’t to the folder where you have saved your files. You properly want to attach one of the file you have recently worked on and saved. Great feature in the new Office 2016, that will make us all a lot more productive if you ask me.
Tell me what you want to do feature
This is another great feature from Office 2016. Search for a feature you need and Office will help you right away e.g. type “Add Table” and you will be presented for the feature right away. You don’t need to find it in some toolbar or dropdown menu.
Smart Lookup
When you are writing on a document Word and need some background facts, you can mark a word or a sentence, right click and select Smart Lookup. This will open a pane to your right with inline search result from Bing search engine. It can be anything from wiki to images you can use in your document or just be confirmed with facts for your writing.
Real-time Document Collaboration
Another great feature for students or other working together in teams are Real-time document Collaboration. With this you can share a document in e.g. Microsoft OneDrive and invite your team members access to work on the same document as you work on yourself. You can choose if they should have the right to edit the file or just view access. I wish we had those feature back when I was studying myself.
Click on the share button in the upper right corner and save your document to the cloud
Invite people that should have access to the document and chose the right permissions
What is your favorite feature of Office 2016?
At first Office 2016 does not look much different then Office 2016, but that is not all true. The new version of Office is full of a lot of new features under the hood. What do you think is the best new feature in Office 2016 and why? Please drop me a comment below and let me know what new feature you like the most.
These all are great features that you have mentioned
The best is smart look up, it is very helpful for me.
Smart look up is for sure a great function to make us more productive.
Well, the new Microsoft office 2016 looks quite cool.
And the features will certainly bring some twist into how we see this Microsoft office before.
cheers

I don’t know what to make of this.
What still seems to be missing is a quick and flexible search in Outlook. In my office we are sending dozens of emails daily and looking up the right peace in my multiple GB .PST file(s) is ALWAYS a drag 😐
Hi Stefan
Searching on big mailboxes in Outlook can be quite a struggle. Have you tried “Search Folders” it is kind of pre-indexed search folders where you can setup the search criteria in advance. E.g. e-mails for a certain person or e-mails with attachments. That is working very well for me:
